Here is the laser and the various lenses that focus the beam into its target.
After the beam is focused, it is sent through an Optical Labyrinth in order to simultaneously take pictures of both the front and the side of a specimen. (see 3D Basics in order to view a diagram of the beam of lights’ path through the labyrinth)
Teh beam then travels into the camera where the picture is captured. (see 3D Basics to see a picture taken by this device.)
